Selection Procedure
The selection for PSTCL technical cadre posts will be conducted in multiple stages as described below. Candidates who clear the computer based test (CBT) and document verification stages will be provisionally selected subject to medical fitness and verification of original documents.
Online Computer Based Test (CBT)
The recruitment test will be a multi-part online examination that assesses technical knowledge relevant to the post as well as general awareness, reasoning and language knowledge. The structure of the test is:
| Sr. No. | Topic | No. of Questions |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Knowledge of Punjabi Language (Part-I) | 50 Questions |
| 2 | Questions related to the concerned post (Technical) | 50 Questions |
| 3 | Punjabi Language Knowledge | 10 Questions |
| 4 | General Knowledge / Awareness | 10 Questions |
| 5 | Logical Reasoning / Quantitative Aptitude | 10 Questions |
Important: The Punjabi language knowledge test will be qualifying in nature and may be conducted separately. Marks obtained in the technical/general sections of the online test will be used for merit list preparation. Shortlisted candidates will be called for document verification and a separate Punjabi language test where applicable.
Document Verification & Punjabi Language Test
Candidates who qualify the CBT as per merit will be called for document checking. During document verification, original certificates for educational qualification, caste/category, disability (if applicable), apprenticeship certificate (if applicable), ITI/Trade certificate, and proof of age will be verified. Punjabi language test will assess knowledge of Punjabi and is typically qualifying only.

How to Prepare — 8-Week Plan (Suggested)
Here’s a focused 8-week study plan to help you prepare for the PSTCL CBT while balancing work or studies:
- Week 1–2: Revise basic electrical concepts, single-phase & three-phase systems, wiring practices and safety. Build strong fundamentals.
- Week 3–4: Practice trade-specific problems and hands-on troubleshooting scenarios. Solve practical MCQs and short problems.
- Week 5: Start Punjabi language practice — reading comprehension, grammar exercises and short writing practice.
- Week 6: General awareness revision (current affairs), and quantitative aptitude basics. Take short quizzes daily.
- Week 7: Full-length mock tests under exam conditions. Analyse mistakes and revise weak areas.
- Week 8: Final revision: short notes, formulas, and quick Punjabi revision. Focus on accuracy and time management.
Make a habit of attempting daily quizzes and set aside 60–90 minutes for technical practice on alternate days. Practical familiarity with electrical tools and systems will be an advantage during interviews and document verification stages.
